Why's everything so expensive in New York? >> Um so >> You want my honest opinion? >> Yeah, of course. White people. >> Shout out to Brooklyn. >> Inventory is high. I'm not high. >> Nobody got money. >> So, you think Bitcoin's the solution? >> Always. >> Let's see how you do in the [music] pressure. >> Bang bang, guys. Today's mission is we're going to figure out why the hell is everything so damn expensive in the US economy. We're here at the Jay-Z concert at Yankee Stadium, and we're going to go talk to a couple of folks. Let's go. >> Why do you think everything's so expensive right now? >> Cuz people willing to spend a lot of money on dumb [ __ ] >> So, you think people are just rich and they just want to waste their money? >> Nah, it's just like when you see people out there buying homeless clothes for $1,200, it's like why not do it, too? >> What's your dream? What do you want to do in your life? >> My dream? I'm not going to lie. My dream is to be financially stable to the point where I don't got to worry about money. I don't got to think about it. Um all my bills on auto pay and I could go on vacation whenever I want, spend time with my daughter. >> So, why do you think everything is so expensive when you go to the grocery store? >> I don't really have an answer for that, but it is >> I don't think anyone really knows. >> Yeah, it's it's confusing. I'm not going to >> do you feel like the uh expenses keep going up, but pay doesn't grow? >> Exactly. That's exactly what's happening. >> Yeah, and then what about rent? New York City just hit all-time high in rent. >> Rent is crazy. I ain't going to lie. I used to live in Jersey. It was even getting crazy out there. But, now I got roommates and that's how crazy rent is. >> Yeah, so basically if you split it up, then it could become affordable. >> Yeah, and it's still kind of expensive even when you split it up. >> use any technology to like manage your finances? >> Chat GPT. >> Chat GPT, what do you do with Chat GPT? >> Uh I create budgets, uh goals, stuff like that. >> You should try out uh CFO Silvia. It's like you you upload all your accounts and everything and then you talk to it. It's basically like Chat GPT on steroids. >> Oh, okay. >> CFO Silvia. >> Yeah. Okay, I'm going to check it out. >> Why do you think everything's so expensive right now? >> The state of this country. >> Yeah, well so what do you think is wrong? How would you fix it if you were the president? >> That's deepest I don't think we got enough time for that to fix all the mistakes that are already made in this country. We don't have enough time. >> Just to make everything more affordable. >> Take from the rich and give to the poor. >> All right, so >> Specifically me. >> So, if we do that, then what's that solve? >> Makes me happy. >> Should we take all the money from all the rich people or just a couple of them? >> Let's make it even. Let's take it from all of them. >> Then when you go to the grocery store, what do you What surprises you as how expensive it is? >> Vegetables. >> Vegetables? What about eggs and milk? >> I don't like eggs or milk. >> Oh, so then you don't buy that stuff. All right, last thing is uh rent today hit a brand new all-time high in New York City. How expensive is rent? >> Way too [ __ ] expensive. >> You got a solution for that? >> Rent stabilization? I don't know. >> [music] [singing] >> All right, I'm here with the world-famous Tank Sinatra. Why is everything so expensive in New York? >> They squeeze us for every dollar they can get, and we keep paying it. >> And you just think that no matter how expensive it gets, no one's going to want to leave New York? >> I think there's a threshold. We haven't reached it yet, but that's why I bought Bitcoin bro. >> All right, now you're talking. What's the most surprising thing when you go to the grocery store? >> Peanut butter. >> It's expensive? >> It's like $12 a jar. >> What about rent? Rent has hit a brand new all-time high in New York City. What do you think about that? >> I don't know how people do it. I honestly don't. My mortgage on a two-acre property is less than most people's rent. >> That's crazy. If you were the mayor, what would you do to change it? >> I don't know. You got to watch You got to watch the spending at a higher level. >> Why do you think the national debt is the problem? >> people spending other people's money is is the problem. >> Yeah, the politicians have a habit of doing that on both sides of the aisle. >> Yeah, it's terrible. It's terrible. >> All right, so you think Bitcoin's the solution? >> Always. >> What about taxes? Should they increase or decrease taxes? >> Taxes should be decreased. >> They need to decrease them. >> They need to be a flat rate. >> And what rate do you think would be good? >> No more than 10%. I don't KNOW WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW, BUT NO MORE THAN 10% LIKE TAX. >> SO, IF WE go down to 10%, then everyone just pays the same. >> Well, flat rate at least for 10 to 15 >> there's a lot of people who pay no taxes. [music] >> Yeah, Minnesota is one, um and I don't know where else. >> Why is everything so expensive in New York? >> Um I don't even know. It's expensive everywhere. >> What's the most surprising thing when you go to the grocery store? >> Everything. It's ridiculous. Like you go in for three things, everything's $40, no matter what. Like >> you can't go anywhere, right? >> You can't go anywhere. If you go to the grocery store, you're paying 40 minimum. Minimum. You could have like two bags, $40, doesn't matter. >> What do you think about the rent freeze? >> It's like me ain't paying rent. >> [laughter] >> We outside right now? >> We outside right now. >> All right, let me understand. Why is everything so expensive in New York? >> If I knew, I would tell you. >> All right, what do you think we could do to fix it? >> Get a better president. >> Get a better president. All right, what do you think he should do? Or if you were president, what would you do? >> Take away all taxes. >> Now you're talking. Everybody get the weekends off. >> Now you're talking. >> All events are free. >> Now you're talking. When you go to the grocery store, what's the most expensive thing that shocks you? >> Eggs is $20. It's crazy. >> Now what do you think about rent? They said New York City rent now is all-time high. >> It's a million dollars for a studio. >> That's crazy. >> A million dollars. >> Where? >> Anywhere in New York. >> Now, last question. Why you got a Red Sox hat on at Yankee Stadium? >> I'm from New York. Respectfully, pardon my hat, because >> I represent myself. >> Why do you think everything in New York so expensive now? >> Too many people in New York. People got to pay, you know, food, everything just costs more, if you know what I'm saying. And then, you know, tariffs and shipment. >> Rent is crazy. >> I don't I don't know what it's like in Kentucky now. I I'll kill >> You live in Kentucky? >> I own. I don't rent, so I don't know nothing about that. >> You're a boss. So why do you think everything got so expensive in New York? >> You want You want my honest opinion? >> Yeah, of course. >> Cuz of y'all. >> What do you mean? >> White people. >> What do you think the white people did? >> It's a pro and con. I tell everybody in life, everything in life has pros and cons. >> All right. >> what I'm saying? Like when y'all came, chicken wings became $6 over $4. >> Oh, you're saying the businesses they see white people and they start jacking up the price. >> Cuz they never seen them before. >> All right, what about gas pump? You think that white people doing that, too? >> No, [music] they're not doing that, too. No, I I know I know between the lines between that line. >> Like you think that what what's driving the gas price higher? >> What I think about the gas price? That's more y'all but on a higher end. >> What do you mean though? >> Cuz if it was us, I'm telling you and I'm not talking about Obama. You want the real >> mean for me? A real New Yorker? >> Yeah, yeah. If it was up to us, we would have gave masks out for free. >> Just give it all out for free. >> Cuz we would have divoted from somebody else. What Trump doing? We would have just did it a little better though. >> So you think that Trump basically just taking from everybody [music] else to give it to America? >> America been doing that. Not just Trump, America been doing that. >> I I think left, right, they all do the same [ __ ] >> Everybody does it but America does it with a little more divot. >> So why you think everything so expensive in New York? >> Rent. >> I pay a lot of money. I have a store in the city and it's an expensive >> What kind of store? >> I own a vintage clothing store called Mr. Throwback in the East Village for 14 years and the rent is very high, tolls are very high, parking's very high, employees are very high, insurance is high, credit card fees are high, inventory's high. I'm not high but everything is expensive. Like you go to the bodega, four toilet rolls paper is like 18 bucks. Why? Cuz rent. So they got to >> So everyone is jacking up the things in the store cuz the rent got so high. >> Yeah. >> Why do you [music] think that rent got high? >> Something is high. Oil's high. >> Oil is high? >> Gas is high. >> Gas is really high. >> It used to be like 30 bucks. It's got to be it's someone. It's not me. >> Yeah, it's not me, either. So one thing that's clear about talking all these people at Yankee Stadium, is that every single person realizes that things have gotten way more expensive. They don't really know why. They can't point to a single cause. They don't know if it's government spending, it's price gouging from companies, or there's some other reason why this has occurred. But every single time they swipe their card, they grocery store, gas pump, whatever it is, they realize that prices keep going up, they can't afford rent, and there's major problems in their financial life. And so, that is one of the big problems in society right now. Is everyone feels it, but no one can explain it. >> Well, Jay-Z broke attendance records for his concert series at Yankee Stadium over the past weekend. >> the show got off to a really rough start last night when fans, many without tickets, rushed the entrance. >> It's now after midnight. [music] The concert was supposed to start at 8:00 p.m. >> Do you think Jay-Z's going to come out? >> No. >> Do you think Jay-Z's going to come out? >> I have no idea. >> Do you think Jay-Z's going to come out? >> Absolutely. >> Yeah, he's going to come out. >> I think he's definitely coming out. >> I don't know. I hope he does. >> Listen, I'm going to tell you right now. >> Let's go. >> There was something that happened behind the scenes that they're not telling everybody about. >> What is it? >> I was here yesterday. >> Jay-Z's not coming out tonight. >> Do you think Kanye may come out? >> Kanye is not here. No. >> [music] [music] >> New York City what's up? >> [cheering] >> You're going to skip to one song? One song only? >> New York City what's up? Take it to number 10. >> Go. >> [music] >> Go. Go. >> [music] >> I'm also hot. Don't [ __ ] with a fire me. First [ __ ] got to fire me. What's 50 grand to a [ __ ] like me? Can you please remind me? I'm also hot. This [ __ ] crazy. Yeah, I know that [ __ ] crazy. That's all the 82 when they look at you like this [ __ ] crazy. I'm also hot. This [ __ ] crazy. We ain't even supposed to be here. I'm also hot. This the booth. It's only right that we be fair. I'm psycho. I'm like go light go. Tick tick cha cha cha cha show time. >> We may have had to wait 4 hours for this, but Jay-Z was incredible. Jay-Z extra innings, our third show, three nights in a row at Yankee Stadium. [cheering] Nothing could beat it. I love you all. I love New York City. I love Jay-Z. I'll see you all of you next time. >> Oh my god. That's the top. See the top. I'm [music] on top. See the guap. Get the guap. That's a lot.
