the investment is kind of a no-brainer
Contexte Now, the investment is kind of a no-brainer, but why is he making it? Why is a software billionaire buying an oil producer in Patagonia?
Transcription Complète
Peter Thiel, the billionaire tech entrepreneur and former CEO of PayPal, just put 18% of his entire fund into one stock. In fact, he just rebuilt his entire portfolio. Every holding is brand new. Eight stocks. One of his biggest buys is a company called Vista Energy, ticker VIST. And it sits on top of the Vaca Muerta shale deposit in Argentina. Today, I'm going to show you why Silicon Valley software guy suddenly buying oil in Patagonia and reveal the $25 billion project that could make this stock triple over the next few years. Be sure to subscribe to the channel so I can keep you up to date on what's happening. Now, if you weren't aware, professional fund managers, anyone that manages more than $100 million, has to report their holdings every quarter in what's called a 13F filing. Now, Thiel's macros hit the wire on Friday. $418 million spread across eight positions. The largest is Amazon, sitting at 118 million, roughly 28% of the book. Vista, as we mentioned, is second, 75.9 million. Then Vistra, the power producer. Then American Electric Power, DTE Energy, First Energy, CMS Energy, and then this little 3 and 1/2 million dollar stake in Xcel Energy, which builds those little modular nuclear reactors. But, are you noticing the theme here? Power, utilities, nuclear, oil. 72% of this man's disclosed money is now in energy, meaning this is not one or two or eight stock picks. It is a bet on a shortage. You see, Thiel does not think the thing that runs out first in the AI build out is chips. He thinks it's electricity. So, he's buying the companies that either make the power or fuel it. Now, one quick note about 13F, they are released and always have been 45 days after they are filed. So, the positions here are as of June 30th. But, these are big concentrated bets and I doubt they have changed since. But there's even more to the story. You see, in April, Thiel flew to Buenos Aires and sat down privately with Argentinian President Javier Milei at the Casa Rosada. And that same month, he bought a $12 million mansion in Palermo Chico, the most expensive area in the city. It's a nice cozy 17,000 square feet. And then, this week we find out that he owns 1% of an Argentine oil producer. So, you got to ask, what did he learn in that meeting? Because this is one of the most connected men on the planet. He funded J.D. Vance's Senate race. He was the first outside investor in Facebook when it was a dorm room website. He co-founded PayPal. He built Palantir. And in April, he was in a private meeting with the President of Argentina 3 months before revealing an investment in the country's biggest energy story. Vistra drills for both oil and natural gas, but 87% of their volume is oil, which is good because Argentine natural gas mostly gets sold inside Argentina in pesos at prices the government has a say in through pipelines that are already full, it is not a money maker. Oil, however, goes onto a ship. It gets sold at the world price in US dollars, the same as the barrels coming out of West Texas. And here are the numbers for this company. Second quarter revenue 1.15 billion up 89%. Adjusted EBITDA 805 million up 99% in a single year. Free cash flow 491 million dollars. And it's not just on the increase prices. Production was up 32%. Management, get this, is guiding to 3 billion dollars of EBITDA, which is interest before, I'm sorry, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization. 3 billion of EBITDA for the full year. And this is This estimate is based on $65 Brent crude. Right now it's at 93. Heads-up, they're going to make a lot more than 3 billion dollars this year. When you do the math on what happens to that guidance if oil just stays where it is, which I think it's going to do for a lot longer than people expect. I've been saying this for months and it's held true. The entire company today is worth 7.6 billion dollars. So, what you are paying today is roughly two and a half times this year's cash flow for the whole business. Nine times earnings, bottom line. Seven times next year's. The debt is modest. Oh, and by the way, like I said, they're growing production at more than 30% a year. Now, the investment is kind of a no-brainer, but why is he making it? Why is a software billionaire buying an oil producer in Patagonia? Because of what is about to get built on top of them. OpenAI is building its first Latin American Stargate data center project in Patagonia with a partner called Sir Energy. The 500 megawatts of capacity. $25 billion investment. And it is structured under Milei's RIGI program. And that is Argentina's incentive regime to get these big investments. It It locks in tax and custom terms for 30 years. So, no surprises. And that's the whole purpose of the thing, right? To To make foreign money stop worrying about the next election. They're going to nationalize and take all this. It's locked for three decades. Now, stack the export side on top. Argentina just signed a framework to ship 2 million tons of LNG per year to Germany's state-owned energy company. 8 years, over $7 billion. First cargo goes out September of 2027. So, here's the big picture. On one side, $25 billion of AI money coming in to buy Argentine power. On the other side, Europe's signing 8-year contracts for all of Argentina's natural gas. And sitting in the middle of both of them, one basin. And folks, money is about to start pouring into this basin. Vista is standing right in the middle of it. And I think that is where Peter Thiel wants to be. Owning the energy at the site of the next data center race. Now, again, this is Argentina, which historically has been a bit risky. There've been currency fluctuations. There have been governments that change the rules. But that's what is different today. RIGI locked the terms for three decades. And the oil is already being sold offshore in dollars. And the biggest names in American capital are now buying the land and the power and the barrels all the same time. So, let's look at the chart. Now, unlike a lot of these sectors that get hot and double and triple and you're chasing them, Vista's actually been consolidating pretty nicely. If you step out over five, you know, six, seven years, trending beautifully, steadily marching from down here at two or three dollars to 70 and beyond. That's what good companies do. But, if you look at it 2026, it really hasn't gone anywhere over the last three, four, five months. And so, what you've got is this consolidation here in the stock. As we can see, volatility kind of compressing. Right? You You're seeing these big moves uh early in the year, kind of coming in, tightening up, and then news of Peter Thiel's investment hit the wire on Monday. Stocks up about 3%, not huge, but really nice clean action above the moving averages in a good uh uptrend, and you're being able to buy it at essentially March prices. Now, Wall Street analysts have an average price target of around 98 bucks a share. But, if Argentina becomes even half of what Milei and Thiel are betting it becomes, this is a $200 stock inside probably the next two to three years. Folks, don't forget to subscribe to the channel, and don't forget to join my Black Ops trading service.
